Join us at Moorpark College for our CASH FOR COLLEGE WORKSHOP.  Our Financial Aid Staff will assist students and parents applying for the 2016/2017 FAFSA application, the California Dream application, and the Chafee Application.

FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION

 

1.  Attend Financial Aid Workshop on 01/11/16, RHS Library 6:00 p.m.

2.  Create a Federal Student Account for student and parent at https://fsaid.ed.gov

3. File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you are not eligible to file a FAFSA file a Dream Act Application at www.caldreamact.org. This should be completed before 03/02/16.  Estimate 2015 income if you have not filed income taxes at the time of completing form.  Make sure you go back into the FAFSA and make corrections to income once you have filed. If you have filed 2015 taxes use the IRS retrieval tool if you are eligible.

4. Make sure you list a California college/university in the first three colleges that you have applied to.  This will ensure that you are processed for Cal Grant. 

5.  Create a web grants account at www.webgrants4students.org.  This is for Cal Grant aid.  Your GPA will automatically be sent to the California Student Aid Commission.

6.  Write down all username and passwords for creating your accounts.

7. If you need help filling out the FAFASA or Dream Act Application attend a Cash for College workshop.  Provides line-by-line help on the FAFSA, CA Dream Act & Chafee Applications (foster youth).  Workshops offer computers so students can apply on the spot.  Email:cashforcollege@csac.ca.gov for registration and materials.

8. Check with the schools you are applying to regarding additional financial aid forms or applications.

9. Check with schools you are applying to regarding scholarships for incoming freshmen.  There may be a separate application.

10.  Check your email/portal at the schools you applied to.  This is where the school will communicate with you about financial aid.

11.  MEET ALL DEADLINES.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS

 

 

RONALD REAGAN PRESIDENTIAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP:  Graduating seniors, demonstrate outstanding leadership, character, communication skills, academic achievement, commitment to Ventura Co., minimum GPA 3.0, plan to enroll full-time at 4 yr college or university, U.S. Citizen

Scholarship will be available January 4, 2016 online at www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships

 

$1,000-$8,000

 

Deadline:  02/19/16

 

ZONTA INTERNATIONAL YOUNG WOMEN IN PUBLIC AFFAIR AWARD: Women, ages 16-19 on April 1, active commitment to volunteerism, experience in local government, student government or workplace leadership, volunteer leadership achievements, knowledge of Zonta International and it programs

 

Deadline:  02/19/16

 

VENTURA COUNTY JAPANESE AMERICAN CITIZENS LEAGUE: Graduating senior, Japanese ancestry or member of JACL, planning to attend 2/4 yr college or university in fall 2016 (National JACL Scholarship also available.  Student must be JACL member) 

 

Deadline:  03/01/16

 

ITALIAN CATHOLIC FEDERATION SCHOLARSHIP:  Seniors, GPA 3.2 or above, Roman Catholic and of Italian descent or Roman Catholic and parent or guardian is a member of the Italian Catholic Federation. Judged on scholastic achievement, financial need, leadership role, faculty recommendation, extracurricular activities.

 

First year $400 ( to 200 applicants), second, third and fourth year awards of $500, $600, and $1,000 respectively.

CALIFORNIA ALARM ASSOCIATION YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP:  Graduating senior, parent must be a full-time paid member of the police, sheriff's or fire department. Parent may also be a volunteer member of a fire department, proof of acceptance to a college or university, SAT scores

$1,000-$5,000  Applications available in the CCC Room 5-10.

Deadline:  03/25/16

 

VENTURA COUNTY CHAPTER BLACKS IN GOVERNMENT:  Graduating senior, planning to attend an accredited secondary institution in Fall 2016, minimum GPA 2.75, 2 letters of recommendation.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE AFRICAN AMERICAN TO APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP.

$100-$250.  Applications available in the CCC Room 5-10  or at http://vccbigix.wix.com/bigix

 

Deadline:  03/27/16

 

12TH DISTRICT PTA SCHOLARSHIP:

Seniors, PTSA members, extracurricular, essay, two recommendations.  Application available in the CCC Room 5-10 .

 

4 - $500 in Ventura County

Deadline:  03/31/16


 

 

VENTURA COUNTY CAREER GUIDANCE ASSOCIATION: Graduating senior, GPA 2.8 - 3.7 unweighted, extra-curricular activities, clarity of direction and goals, financial need may be considered.  Applications available in the CCC Room 5-10.

Deadline:  04/12/16

 

 

SIERRA PACIFIC FLYFISHERS-WILLIAM L HARRY SCHOLARSHIP:  Seniors, GPA 3.0 passed the CAHSEE, accepted into a 2 or 4 yr college or university in a program focusing on natural resources,  environmental sciences, oceanography or a related field.

HOLLOW HILLS FUNDAMENTAL SCHOOL PTA SCHOLARSHIP:  Graduating senior, college bound, graduated 5th or 6th grade from Hollow Hills, attended for a minimum of 4 years, gpa 3.0 or higher.  Applications available in the CCC Room 5-10.

Up to $1,000

Deadline:  04/18/16

 

VENTURA COUNTY CHAPTER OF AMERICAN PUBLIC WORKS ASSOCIATION (APWA): Senior planning to enter college in an engineering/public works related major (see application for examples) Application available at http://ventura.apwa.net

Free Test Prep!

March2Success.com is a program that helps students prepare for the SAT, ACT, ASVAB and state exit exam.  It will help students improve their knowledge in Language Arts, Mathematics and science. Go to www.march2success.com to register for this program.
